As Engineering Manager, you will lead, coach, and develop best-in-class cross-functional teams of software engineers. Working alongside the delivery and tech leadership team, project managers and solution architects, you will serve as the essential link between product and engineering.Your focus will be on ensuring teams are set up for high performance, maintaining a clear project plan and delivering software that exceeds customer expectations while actively driving stakeholder feedback across Backbase.
Meet the Job
In this role, you will manage both technical and people systems, connecting structures and teams while identifying and filling organizational gaps. You will serve as a technically strong role model, remaining hands-on when necessary and helping teams set strategic direction. Key responsibilities include:
- Technical Governance (technical practices to improve velocity and quality, performance & reliability practices for implementation, aligning engineering initiatives with company goals)
- Operational Excellence (streamlining SDLC, engineering metrics for data-led insights and improvements)
- People Leadership (structuring ways of working, recruitment, onboarding, coaching)
Engineering managers are our bar raisers for implementation quality and engineering discipline while enabling autonomy at the squad level.
You own the following outcomes in Backbase projects:
- Quality of software delivery
- Estimations accuracy, Squad Velocity, Sprint success rate, Release success
- Maintainability (minimizing Tech Debt, implementation best practices)
- Team performance and health
- Growth & performance of engineers
- Bachelor's degree in software engineering or similar experience.
- 12+ years of hands-on software development experience, with at least 2 years of people management responsibilities.
- 2+ years of experience leading multi-disciplinary Agile development teams (minimum 2 teams of 6–8 engineers); experience in system integrators, product companies, banking, payments, or SaaS is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
- Experience in hiring, defining team composition, and onboarding strategies.
- Deep understanding of technical practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, release management, and performance monitoring.
- Proficiency with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Git.
- Excellent English communication and presentation skills.
