About the job
Join our research team as an experienced data engineer, delivering actionable data driven insights across diverse global shipping, trade, offshore, renewables and energy datasets. You will help us build and derive valuable data used widely to analyse impacts of market trends, geopolitics, and decarbonisation.
What you'll be doing:
- Help develop and maintain SQL server-based dataprocessing and ETL systems
- Develop and use T-SQL stored procedures to extract, transform, derive, aggregate and validate data
- Work on the development of application data layers
- Collaborate on requirement gathering, planning deliverables, and tracking project progress
- Monitoring, optimising and enhancing functionality of our Microsoft SQL Server database systems, including time-series data systems
- Work in a fast-paced, motivated and agile team, supporting clients and reporting progress to senior management
You'll need to have:
- 4+ years experience working and developing in SQL Server
- Experience designing and building database solutions
- Excellent demonstratable SQL skills including complex queries and stored procedures
- Experience in Databaseoptimization, indexes, partitions and data structures
- Proficiency in and experience working with Microsoft Excel
- Prior experience of JSON data structures in Microsoft SQL Server could be helpful, as could previous experience of working with time-series data
- A degree in relevant numerate or analytical subject
- Good organisational skills and strong attention to detail

- Curiosity and willingness to learn new techniques, programming languages and software tools
- Any experience of Python, Power Query (DAX), querying and manipulating spatial data
- Knowledge of the maritime, offshore oil and gas, or offshore renewable industries
- Awareness of global trade, economics and statistics
