Overview:

Avalara is seeking a business-savvy, action-oriented, results-driven strategic manager to join the Global Analytics and Insights team as Manager – Data management. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of business and finance analysts who will support Global Analytics & Insights (GAI) and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) goals at Avalara.
Your primary functional responsibilities will encompass overseeing the team in providing exceptional analytical insights that support modeling, forecasting and business decisioning for the GAI and FP&A teams. By combining a deep understanding of Avalara’s business, and SaaS business concepts with knowledge of statistics and exploratory data analysis, your team will uncover actionable insights and catalyze change for Avalara’s customers.
Your additional functional responsibilities may include budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes, providing insightful financial analysis to senior leadership, and collaborating cross-functionally to optimize financial performance.

With a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and strategic alignment, you'll leverage your expertise to enhance financial visibility, identify growth opportunities, and mitigate risks.

In this role, you will
  • Provide analytical deep dives, read-outs, executive presentations, and business analysis artifacts
  • Create meaningful and insightful data visualizations, reports, and dashboards using tools like Power BI, or data visualization libraries in Python or R
  • Ensure consistent and high quality deliverables, with coding and project documentation up to date.
  • Understand the stakeholder business requirements and do end to end scoping for the project deliverables
  • Work cross-functionally for various programs and initiatives; make clear, coherent and holistic recommendations
  • Responsible for supporting finance team including gathering, modeling, analyzing, and summarizing financial and headcount information for use in budgeting, financial modeling, forecasting, reporting and KPIs for recurring deliverables and/or ad-hoc analytics
  • Provide supervision and development opportunities for analysts by hiring and training; performance management, mentoring; assigning duties; and providing recognition

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Minimum 6+ years of relevant work experience in analyzing large, multi-dimensional datasets and synthesizing data insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Minimum 3+ Years of relevant work experience in managing analytics teams. Experience managing Finance analysts is a plus.
  • Data-driven mindset with a degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or Mathematics
  • Fluent in SQL, Adaptive Insights, Microsoft Office Suite; experience with visualization tools such as PowerBI and building statistical models preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to influence cross-functional teams, and executive leadership
  • Above all comfort with data – the ability to manipulate it, question its validity, interpret it, and develop recommendations based on it
